By now there are many questions about Alaska and travel in general! That is the million dollar question that everyone is asking. Well it’s about a 50/50 shot when coming to Alaska this year. The biggest players that are out for 2020 is Princess Cruises. They have made the decision to not open the hotels this year. That’s a big deal for Denali. 80% of Denali’s revenue comes from those major hotels. Excursions like wildlife viewing are still going to happen. Which is great news, but the not so great news is that they are opening late and on reduced schedules.
The same goes for one of Alaska’s biggest cities, Anchorage. The feel is the same. Hotels are going to still take summer booking and tours are still going to run but at reduced timelines. The Alaskan Governor already has plans to slowly reopen Alaska and other businesses. Great News! But this will be done in phases. Phase one will be small doctors offices and such like that. Then Phase two will be more public locations like movie theaters, but will be required to allow limited guests.
At the time of writing this things change from day to day. With the price of Oil falling, it’s an important part of the Alaskan Economy as well. The feeling around Alaska that the 2020 Summer Travel Season will be low but not out. While a majority of those visiting Alaska come from cruises, there is a 1/3 of those who travel to Alaska by plane, and their personal means of travel. And for those, just know there are still things to do and see in Alaska this summer season.
